Integrating Local Wisdom into History Learning to Implement The Merdeka Curriculum in Grade X at Klaten Public Senior High Schools, Academic Year 2022/2023

Abstrak

This study examines (1) the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Grade X history learning at public senior high schools in Klaten City; (2) the forms and contexts of local wisdom integrated into history learning; and (3) the perceptions of students, teachers, and schools regarding its effectiveness. This qualitative case study was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Klaten, SMA Negeri 1 Karanganom, and SMA Negeri 1 Ceper. Data were obtained through passive participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis of learning objectives and teaching modules. Participants were selected purposively, and data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. Data were analyzed interactively through data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that history learning generally follows the Merdeka Curriculum and is adapted to classroom conditions, although implementation does not always fully follow the teaching modules. Local wisdom has not been standardized across schools and includes temples, reliefs, inscriptions, sites, local traditions, and cultural practices, particularly in learning about Hindu-Buddhist acculturation. Students, teachers, and schools respond positively because local wisdom makes history learning more contextual and connected to students’ everyday lives. However, differences in student characteristics, school facilities, and access to historical sites remain challenges.
