This article examines the development of education in Indonesia during the early period of the New Order regime, particularly from 1966 to 1975. This period represents an important phase in the history of Indonesian education because the New Order government began to reorganize the education system following the political changes of the mid-1960s. This study aims to analyze the direction of education policy, institutional and curricular changes, and the various impacts of educational development on society during the period. The study employs a literature review method with a historical approach. Data were obtained from academic books, scholarly journal articles, policy documents, and other written sources relevant to the history of Indonesian education during the New Order. The analysis examines developments in education policy and practice within Indonesia’s social, political, and economic context from 1966 to 1975. The findings indicate that the New Order government positioned education as an important instrument for national development and political stability. These efforts were reflected in the reorganization of the education system, curriculum improvement, expanded access to education, and increased development of educational facilities and infrastructure. However, these developments also demonstrated the increasingly strong role of the state in directing the objectives, content, and administration of education. Thus, educational development from 1966 to 1975 reflected not only government efforts to improve educational quality and equity but also the close relationship among education policy, the national development agenda, and the political interests of the New Order.
